You could do worse

I came upon this almost by accident and rolled my eyes at information technology till I saw Claudia black who has some credibility, listed in the cast. She does a skillful job with the textile and gives a great performance throughout. Her performance gives her graphic symbol some depth which in truth, the screenplay seems to miss somewhat, just she can't singlehandedly carry this i off. The script needs another once over with a fresh pair of eyes if I'm honest, as much of the dialogue is similar something out of a comic book, cliched, meaningless and stilted.

The story is a reasonably good one if a little predictable, just the premise is audio. All the same there simply isn't enough going on to keep the involvement focused, and the lengthy scenes and uneventful screenplay lend footling to maintain interest.

The special effects, CGI are all decent, nothing to write home about, but they don't let the moving-picture show down the way the script and story line do. I'k ever a little sceptical when the writer and director are the aforementioned individual since what is perceived in cosmos isn't always the all-time way to flesh it out on film, and here my concerns are warranted. Ane or the other is my rule of thumb and rarely does it bode well for a creation with a single person doing both.

I retrieve much of the films forced ambiance are due to a lacking in direction, and some of the characters are way off base. 'Greyness' and 'Sen' played by Black and Blackwood are a constant source of contention with no clear control structure seemingly in identify. Its an odd way to spin a relationship in space with a mission of such importance, and information technology neither works here nor rings true. There are other weird glitches throughout the movie and information technology serves only to kink the polish flow of events as they unfold on-screen. I found information technology most disconcerting.

Blackwood delivers the whole compliment of his lines through clenched teeth as though he'south stemming the overflow of some long held rage with bully difficulty. His stiff, stoic delivery makes him stand out every bit the weak talent in this cast of less than ten people. Once again I think this is more due to bad direction rather than a failing of his talent, just irrespective, the flick suffers as a result. David O'hara past contrast plays his character to a 'T' and the other cast members with more minor roles are achieved enough, but forgettable.

On the whole it's non also bad, but in that location just isn't enough going on here to bring off the story, and some of the cliched developments really practise it a disservice.

I think 5 is an honest and fair score, for what is at best, a 'watchable' motion picture. Its not a big product so I don't want to be overly critical knowing it couldn't have been an easy one to produce, just I recall the scant flesh on the carcass of this one is its big problem. Information technology really needed some fleshing out before being served up to banquet.

Keen concept just poor execution.

You tin tell newb writer and director Steve Stone'southward inexperience was axiomatic in this film, especially failing to direct his bandage properly. Even Claudia Blackness looked lost in some scenes, and Richard Blackwood as the commander was only horrible and unconvincing in every scene, not to mention annoying. His demeanor, (lack of) facial expressions and body language, tone of vocalisation and dialogue was just all incorrect.

Conceptually the story was interesting, but it suffered plot and technical bug, and the slow pacing with many long dragged out and unnecessary scenes made the normally comfortable 90 min runtime experience much longer. It needed more story to fill in the fourth dimension, or cut downwards to a short picture show. Much of the dialogue felt very amateurish, especially the AI, and writing could've used more than suspense and activity instead of abiding cam views and cheesy inexpensive random shots.

The visuals still were decent for a low budget B movie, and the score was excellent, peculiarly for a B movie, where the score is ordinarily too loud, constant, abrasive and unfitting.

As a huge sci-fi fan, I still enjoyed it, equally I've seen much worse, and seeing information technology through till the end says a lot. For a depression budget B film from a newb filmmaker, I'd say information technology's a decent i-fourth dimension watch if y'all're a sci-fi fan. Had the actors been better cast and/or directed, this moving picture would've been much meliorate. Withal, a generous half dozen/ten from me.

Flaccid and bland space chance...

Now, I am not really a big fan of the sci-fi genre, only I will lookout man movies of said genre when given the opportunity. And with "Deus" being a movie that I had never heard nearly, nor seen, of course I opted to sit downwardly and lookout man what writer and managing director Steve Stone had to offer.

And while "Deus" definitely had an interesting cover/poster and synopsis, the picture just wasn't really all that interesting. Sure, "Deus" was watchable, but it merely wasn't a particularly thrilling or overly entertaining film, as the storyline was somewhat flaccid and bland.

The acting performances in "Deus" were adequate. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, which is usually something I enjoy when watching movies. Simply the actors and actresses had precious lilliputian to work with hither in terms of a properly written storyline, and then they didn't really accept much of whatsoever chance to unfold themselves on the screen.

Visually then "Deus" was good. I liked the special effects and the CGI. And it definitely felt like the picture took place deep in infinite near Mars. And that added something to the flick, which was otherwise struggling with a mediocre script.

I am sure that hardcore sci-fi fans might get a kick out of a movie such as "Deus" from writer and director Steve Stone. Nevertheless, as a casual viewer, then "Deus" was not an impressive or memorable picture experience.

My rating of "Deus" lands on a iv out of ten stars.

Let's send immature emotional jerks to space

This is another entry in the "allow'southward rid Earth of people we detest" space missions. A coiffure is shot into infinite to investigate a mysterious sphere.

The characters are obnoxious, offensive, and dull. Three of the crew (a woman and 2 men) freak out when answers aren't immediately forthcoming fifty-fifty before they approach their destination. If they received any training at all, it was on the order of a two hour seminar at DeVry. There isn't one relatable character, which eliminates whatsoever chance of tension or appointment with the proceedings.

The acting is terrible, but whether that is due to the failings of histrion or script is unclear. The dialog is largely superfluous, adding fiddling or goose egg to the story. Before they accomplish the sphere ane character sagely says, in about a thousand words, "we take find out what the sphere is". Well, duh! That'south the point of entire mission. Mayhap that dude on the basis should have briefed them earlier launching them into space. Then once again, just one guy on world is interested in their progress, and his instructions are basically: go along going.

They saved a lot of money past not having a lighting budget. The spaceship has well-nigh v watts of lighting for some reason. Everyone stumbles around in the nighttime.

I won't spoil the "thrilling" conclusion to the mystery. But suffice information technology to say you won't intendance one way or the other.

Three stars simply because I didn't plough it off. Everything else adds a chiliad total of zero stars. Which puts it two stars above the horrendous Rings of Ability, false reviews yet. Iii stars.

Extended Dr Who episode

Merely finished Deus subsequently going in bullheaded.

The whole thing felt like a Dr Who episode, merely with tons of extra padding.

The plot was quite sloppy, and the effects had a "fabricated for Boob tube" feeling to them. The acting was pretty meh throughout, with some strange choices being fabricated at times (when the chief character learns a major plot twist their response is pretty emotionless).

They had admission to a pretty good cast, but even that was wasted.

Some of the twists throughout were kind of impaired, and the rest were painfully obvious. Many of the plot points were needless and didnt add annihilation to the story at all.

I'm a sucker for sci-fi but this simply felt very underdeveloped, similar it was a 2nd draft that they greenlit without any rework.

This could hands take been shrunk down to a 30 minute tv episode (with commercials) and still provided however info.

Not really worth the time unfortunately.

What a ho-hum movie!!

2022 has brought many bad and awful movies. But this is 1 of most boring ones. The acting, the plot, the scenery everything stinks in this movie. It'due south so boring, that you start playing on your smartphone while watching this crap.

A mysterious black sphere is discovered in the orbit of Mars. The Achilles is sent to investigate. Later the half dozen-person crew wake from eight months hibernation, the Sphere is transmitting a single word in every Earth language ever known - Deus. And thats it. Nothing happens. Utter boredom. In 1979 they could make a classic like Conflicting. And now, in 2022 43 years later on, this crap is existence made. Avoid.

Non completely awful

The first half of the motion picture is definitely a chore to watch but it does get somewhat better in the second half.

The master things about Deus that suck include most of the dialog, some of the actors, some of the set design (for instance: hexagon shaped doors), and the terrible emphasis for the computer AI. Too, the ending felt a picayune sharp.

The graphics are pretty good and the story itself isn't terrible.

Claudia Black is, of course, the films saving grace.

Considering how atrocious most low upkeep movies have been lately, this one is entertaining.

If you can manage the first half, information technology turns out to not exist a waste of time.

Information technology's a VERY cheaply produced terrible B-movie. Period.

Deep sigh...

I go it, everybody wants to try to make a vivid scifi picture with NO money and without whatsoever talent available. Does it have a adventure of succeeding? No ofcourse not. Just these kind of cheaply produced B-movies keep gettting made anyhow.

Who could be watching these kind of failures? Information technology is definitely simply suited for a goggle box audition that is half awake, one-half comatose in front of the tv set. I prefer being deep asleep, but I have watched it anyhow, considering I am such a fool for scifi movies that I will endeavor out any new one.

Let's get to the indicate, is it any practiced? NO. Ofcourse not.

The bad: the actors are C-listed actors. Not fifty-fifty B-listed, simply C-listed. Total lack of whatsoever kind of talent or charisma.. Totally banal.

More bad: the scifi sets are cheap fakes. The story is just another ripoff.

To be avoided. Not even terrible in a funny way. Just patently terrible...

British sci-fi

In the future, the Earth is existence crushed by over-population. A mysterious blackness sphere is orbiting Mars and tycoon Vance sends the spaceship Achilles to investigate. Karla Grayness (Claudia Black) is one of the six person coiffure waking up from hibernation. The sphere starts repetitively transmitting one discussion, Deus.

This is a British sci-fi moving-picture show that is a bit above TV level but not quite theatrical level. The kickoff half has elements of sci-fi horror. That's what I'm expecting when 1 of them starts killing. It's sort of like Issue Horizon with less gore. The writing is a picayune clunky. The most obvious sign is that everybody keeps calling Karla Gray past her full name. It's not dialogue. It'southward a author writing down words. And so it delivers its big reveal. Without spoiling, I can say that I appreciate the attempt. Information technology reminds me of an one-time sci-fi magazine story with a twist. It doesn't really work in the existent, but it has hints of something solid.

No Sunshine over the (Event) Horizon......

Alarm: Spoilers

A mysterious black sphere is discovered in the orbit of Mars.

The Achilles is sent to investigate. Afterward the ragtag six-person crew wake from 8 months hibernation, the Sphere is transmitting a single word in every World language ever known....... The championship of the moving-picture show, so sleepy audition members won't forget.

Saw this at a secret screening concluding night, and my audible disdain when the championship card appeared on screen fabricated other members laugh in the theatre.

I had merely seen a trailer for this, and it didn't do the film any favours, especially when you realised that Richard Blackwood was in it (for those who don't know, he was a very annoying MTV host in the early on 2000's who though information technology would be a skilful idea to start a pop career.........it wasn't).

As soon every bit the picture show begins, you kickoff to realise that this is nothing more than a Sunshine and Event Horizon rip off. They even say the latter films title twice during the pic.

So nosotros have a sphere that is shouting out Deus every couple of seconds, which means God. It's likewise an anagram of used also.

And then some of the crew become a little weird, O'hara walks effectually the Achilles like The Terminator, and Blackwood has a permanent sneer on his face throughout the picture, obviously signalling that he isn't all what he seems.

At that place is some wonderful cinematography in the film, and it all goes along at a steady footstep, but you can't assist but retrieve that there is a deeper film somewhere in this mess, begging to get out.

All in all, it's not terrible by whatever means, simply a footling redundant, and information technology will vanish without a trace.

Deus

Well I suppose I ought to have read the cast list earlier shelling out £7.50 to scout this in a cinema. Had I done so, I would have probably been less surprised at simply how poor this is. The is a sort of hybrid of "Star Expedition 5" (1989) with bits of "Stargate SG-1" thrown in likewise. The whole premiss centres upon a crew of astronauts who are sent to investigate a mysterious sphere orbiting the over-populated Earth and pinging out a coded message that suggests information technology might really be God! Captained by MTVs very own Richard Blackwood, it is pretty clear that something nefarious is afoot. To solve that problem, we plough to Claudia Black "Karla" and her musculus-mate "Ulph" (David O'Hara) who are sent to investigate and, of course, it all goes a bit pear-shaped. Hovering higher up their investigation is their gazillionaire boss "Vance" (Phil Davis in a especially scruffy -looking flannel/ill-fitting blazer philharmonic) who adds precisely no menace to the proceedings at all. I never quite forgave Blackness for, in my view, totally trashing what had hitherto been an entertaining sci-fi series in "SG-ane", she is a wooden and unremarkable actress who lives up to that clarification hither. Admittedly, the dialogue is just every bit wooden and O'Hara only has the ane gear which does all it needs to, merely inappreciably challenges anyone. The plot is thin and the characterisations left largely on the page (or postcard) every bit the story lumbers on. The visual furnishings are easily the all-time affair virtually this otherwise derivative tv set picture show that volition be remembered next week by nobody.

Pretty lame film

OK. So we have to exist realistic... SciFi films don't exactly must be scientifically authentic (yep.. Darth Vader isn't existent, right?). But at to the lowest degree bear witness some coherence. A sphere is found in Mars orbit in a future far enough to hibernate people and wake them back, and build a really big ship with bogus gravity, then they took eight months to reach Mars? I am pretty sure SpaceX volition do better in a few years... And using hibernation for an viii months trip in such a large ship with a handful of crewmates? Are you kidding me?

Bandage was adequately good, and I am sure they spent a practiced deal of money in this moving picture, yet the script is poor, to say at least. Don't waste your time equally I wasted mine.

Amend than expected

Non being a massive budget film, I was quite pleased with it.

I had two 'large' problems watching this, the first was "Si Rubin", the whole character and performance were pretty bad... The 2d problem I had was with the writing.

I feel that few more than drafts would have perhaps helped, at times it really trails off... Now, few things really stood out like the cinematography and editing, both remarkable.

In fact I'd like to know on which camera information technology was shot on, please add together it on IMDb technical space.

My dearest compliments on gear up design too as costumes, they were incredibly skilful!

Another positive affair was the soundtrack as well as sound effects, both captivating.

Definetely a big step upward from Mr. Rock'due south previous films. Go along it up!

P. S. Casting was very skilful too!

This motion-picture show failed do to a bad storytelling

Warning: Spoilers

This pic failed do to a bad storytelling.

Information technology's not the wooden acting because the acting was pretty adept, it's not the budget either because the special effects where very skillful for this movie so not sure why some reviews course information technology similar a typical B movie, the effects were non asylum super bad CGI.

What did the writers and producers of this movie aiming at, i remember sphere the movie back in 1998, outcome horizon 1997 excellent movies. But this one failed to tell a story. We become the issue horizon guy that is possessed, self mutilate, kills one passenger and and then gets killed... i judge the picture show went downhill from there.

I enjoyed this flick.

If you love sci-fi like I do y'all will probably enjoy this movie. The actors are not going to win whatever Oscars but that is par for the form with sci-fi. The story is original enough to go on your attention unless sci-fi is not your kind of movie.

The special furnishings are mostly done well, a few scenes (like in an elevator) look like they were filmed in front end of a dark-green screen but the residuum is done pretty well. Some scenes could have been done better but overall this pic is adept for a single viewing.

The writing was good but information technology could have been better, things similar gravity are mostly ignored in this movie. This is a mystery movie and by the finish yous volition know everything that happened, viewers are not left guessing for the most part.

HUUUUUUGE plotholes! Also very pretty to lookout

Alert: Spoilers

Ok and then hither's a spoiler:

why bother blowing up the sphere? It's nothing more than a figurehead. It controls nothing on earth, gazillions of people are already jumping into the arches, they were gonna accident upwards the sphere anyway, why carp? They aren't accomplishing anything that will make any difference on world.

Too there would patently exist a self-destruct on the little habitat module or whatsoever it's chosen, and so why carp trying to use it to go back to earth?

As far every bit looks go, it'south a pretty film. Too dark in places, makes it frustrating to get a feel for what the sphere is like. And as others mentioned, if they tin can self-get together a small-scale-moon sized sphere, why not other super useful things that would save humanity? What a dumb plan.

Low budget, loftier concept sci-fi

Borrows lots from Event Horizon simply with the low budget, poor lighting, poor script and patchy interim it never comes close to existence a 'practiced' flick.

Cliche, insufficient creativity

Set pattern / creative design ...

This really comes up first in my mind. What has happened here? There are touch-screen pads merely as well ancient keyboard with CRT screens every bit if it was the 80s "Alien" Nostromo. There are holograms and seemingly face to face communication between mars and earth (nevertheless i recall twenty minutes delay) .. but on the other mitt, there are crappy CCTV that are just meant to malfunction. (in glorious VGA, because we tin build spaceships of that magnitude merely no cameras in 4k or 8k information technology seems) There is AI and automation, merely then we see an engine room that fits in the Titanic with steam punk valves and a boiler of sorts.

While not particularly "bad" .. it is an odd mismatch that looks / feels like the product squad just got "anything" and tried to build a set up, simply everything looks out of place and more like bad cosplay.

Add together to that the cavernous rooms illuminated by sometimes no low-cal source at all. WHO builds a ship that is in perpetual darkness? Also - is that a 2d hand ship? Information technology looks similar a highschool subsequently xx years of "apply" and minimal maintenance and cleanup.

My little rant aside .. i love Claudia Black, but her performance here feels phoned in, flat and just lazy - it does fit with the remainder of the "crews" operation though ... perfectly slow.

As for the story .. sadly, it is full of tropes and classic characters. All types of characters that are a liability for fifty-fifty passing out fast nutrient, mental wrecks without any skills to be near a space mission. And that is a problem .. none of the characters is a believable scientist. It is a soap-opera of incompetence in space .. hence not making me root for any of them, or the mission.

The picture wants to be deeper than it is. Even a typical "monster of the calendar week" episode of 10-files is MUCH deeper, philosophically and too character wise.

It is a one star from me, considering i am almost angry at how bad it is.

Mediocre sci-fi fluff.

As a big fan of sci-fi movies, I thought this movie had hope, though it sadly fell brusk of delivering on it.

The cast did a decent job. But the whole movie was rather subdued. Very much a slow burn from start to end. At that place wasn't a lot of opportunity for anyone to really shine equally at that place wasn't a lot really going on.

The movie'due south master plot started off well, then kind of dragged on for a while... so you get a big reveal that is beyond insane and then you lot get... and ending. All of it very dull and drawn out.

The biggest issue for me is the implementation of technology. The tech they employ and have access to honestly would make the rest of the problems the moving picture talks about very like shooting fish in a barrel to resolve. If they have that level of tech, the issues they're facing shouldn't be issues. Which ever bugs me in such movies. If yous're going to get sci-fi, you take to make sure that the tech you're creating isn't going to invalidate the crisis you're trying to present.

Also, there was a random event going on in the heart that seemed to have absolutely no relevance to anything else... and was quickly forgotten about. It felt like information technology was leading in a different direction, and then they merely abased information technology. Felt very jarring.

Overall... decent enough movie for a single viewing. Special effects are nice. But the writing is pretty bland and the plot is poorly thought out.

This is 1 I would stay clear of - and I say that as a Sci-Fi fan. The plot and writing is truly terrible and lacking in every possible way. The acting is in some parts ok but overall it'south just an emotionless mess - every bit if none of them wanted to be on set.

In the end it turned out to be a highly pointless movie.

Solid Sci-fi Television receiver moving-picture show diversion

I idea this was pretty good, yes it does fill every sci-fi trope going, it was full of holes, at that place were obvious decisions made to resolve storyline issues in the making of information technology and the lack of upkeep was evident, simply for someone who appreciates the genre information technology was worth watching in my view. Claudia Black and David O'Hara were both good acting in information technology, though they're characters were both undeveloped and full of holes too, only actually the only downside was the frequent utilise of unnecessary profanity for the sake of information technology.

It was certainly amend than event horizon or sunshine and about certainly far superior to annihilation Alex Kurtzman's done in the terminal 5 years.

An interesting and relevant story

This moving picture is what I consider a true sci-fi story - it explored the futurity of science and technology, and practical them in a very fascinating way to speculate on issues that we see in our own world today.

This is what the genre does in its truthful form, and we can all benefit from it in ways that transcend mere thrills and amusement. Scifi is mentally stimulating and should provoke thought and ideas, which Deus certainly does.

I won't spoil the story, but suffice to say, I think the sudden appearance of bad reviews here on IMDB is making a clear statement almost how social credit and paid perceptions are deployed, rather than honestly evaluating the film itself.

PS: it was great to run into Claudia Blackness in a space ship once more! <3.
